Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
-Approval of extenuating circumstances will be dependent upon the production of supporting documentation and at the discretion of the unit convener.
- Due to the use of IPA phonetic symbols in the assessment items, students can handwrite or type their assignment; they can scan and submit the scanned copy of the take home assignment to the Canvas site or can submit it hard copy.
Special assessment requirements
Special assessment requirements
- Students must complete every assessment item in order to pass the unit. Normally an aggregate mark of 50% is required to pass the unit.
- Students should keep a copy of any assessment item that has been submitted.
- Where plagiarism is suspected, the assignment will be referred to the Associate Dean Education who will determine penalties. These may include failing the assessment item or failing the unit.
- Moderation of assignments is used in the unit to ensure consistency and transparency in marking.Sample assignments from a range of grades will be moderated for each assessment item by a colleague in the discipline. All FAIL grades will be moderated.
- Special consideration: In the case of illness, misadventure or unavoidable commitments, participants should contact the unit Convener as soon as possible.
- If there is any doubt with regard to the requirements of any particular assignments or assessment procedure, the onus for clarifying the issue rests with the student who should contact the lecturer about the matter.
- Feedback: In the context of assessment, feedback is information returned to students in a timely manner, on their progress in their course or unit.
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.

Learner engagement
Students are expected to devote ten hours a week for the completion of this unit and the remaining hours can be allocated to unit related tasks based on students' preference and need.

Participation requirements
Your participation in both class and online activities will enhance your understanding of the unit content and therefore the quality of your assessment responses. Lack of participation may result in your inability to satisfactorily pass assessment items. Assessment items draw upon the activities completed during classes and online.
Required IT skills
Students are expected to have word processing and IT skills to allow them to fully engage in the unit through Canvas and to complete their assessment. This includes basic word processing skills, downloading documents/files from Canvas, posting messages, uploading assignments, and using the library cataloge and library databases.

None. Students may purchase the textbook or access library copies. The textbook will be used regularly during tutorials.

Instructions for the first and second assignment:
- Please respect the word limit as indicated in the unit outline/Canvas site.
- Written assignments are to be typed: 1.5 or double-spaced, size 12 Times.
- Use page numbering.
- Give your submissions a title.
- Check your work carefully for spelling and grammatical errors.
- Appendices should be added at the end of your assignment and should be numbered.

- References should include only works which have been cited in the main text or appendices.
Provision of information to the group
Notifications through the Canvas Announcements Forum or the Canvas Discussion Forums are deemed to be made to the whole class. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they check for announcements on the Unit's Canvas website (forum messages are also emailed to student email addresses only). Students should ensure they check their student email regularly. The Canvas discussion forums will be checked by staff regularly.
Use of student email account
The University Email policy states that "students wishing to contact the University via email regarding administrative or academic matters need to send the email from the University account for identity verification purposes". Therefore all unit enquiries should be emailed using a student university email account.
